Visiting the Law School
TOURS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
If you are a prospective student and will be visiting the Ann Arbor area, we would be delighted to arrange a law school tour, a class visit, or a meeting with an admissions counselor. To schedule your visit, please use our online registration system. We look forward to meeting you!
Here are some things to think about when planning your visit:
We have tours, classes, and appointments with an admissions counselor on most weekdays between 8 and 5; if you want to visit a class, however, we recommend avoiding Fridays because few classes are available.
Tours, classes, and appointments are not available on weekends, but you can take a self-guided walking tour of the law school.
Classes are not available between terms and for at least the first two or three weeks of each term (see Class Schedule below for more details).
During the term, we typically have at least two student-led tours each weekday. Between terms and during the first three or four weeks of each term, we have tours led by an admissions staff member on a slightly more limited schedule.
Class Schedule
Fall term begins on September 4, 2012, and ends December 7. There are no classes October 15-17 or November 22‑23.
Winter term begins on January 16, 2013, and ends April 24. There are no classes January 21 or March 4-8.
Summer term begins on May 30, 2013, and ends August 16. There is no class July 4-5.
GETTING TO ANN ARBOR
By Air
Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is located 30 miles east of Ann Arbor on I-94. It takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the Law School from the airport. (Other airport options include Bishop International Airport in Flint, MI (FNT), about 50 miles north, or Toledo Express Airport in Toledo, OH (TOL), approximately 45 miles south.)
Several companies offer transportation between Ann Arbor and Metro Airport; most require reservations. View a list of airport transportation options.
The average taxi rate is $45.00 from downtown Ann Arbor to DTW.
If you are interested in renting a car from the airport, there are a number of national car rental companies that can provide you with a vehicle.
By Train
An Amtrak station is located in Ann Arbor, with regular train service nationwide. The station and ticket office is located at Depot and Carey Streets, 734.994.4906, or call 800.USA.RAIL.
By Bus
Nationwide bus service is available from Greyhound Bus Lines, located at 116 West Huron, 734.662.5511.
GETTING AROUND TOWN
Directions to the Law School
Once you've arrived in Ann Arbor, these directions and maps will help you find your way to the Law School.
Local bus service is provided by the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority, 734.996.0400, and by the University Bus System, 734.764.3427. Free University buses run at ten- to twenty-minute intervals, depending on the time of day and day of the week, and connect North, Central, Medical, and South campuses. University buses are blue and silver or blue and maize. Check for the latest route information.
The AATA has routes that serve all of Ann Arbor and some points in Ypsilanti, Chelsea, and Dexter. Find out routes and schedules online or by calling 734.996.0400.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The Michigan League (911 North University Street; 734.764.3177), the Campus Inn (615 East Huron Street; 1.800.666.8693), and the Bell Tower Hotel (300 South Thayer Street; 1.800.562.3559) are all located within walking distance from the Law School. There are also a number of hotels in the Ann Arbor area with reasonable rates just a quick drive or bus ride away from campus.
PARKING
Parking is always extremely limited on campus. Parking is available on the street at meters or at the visitor lot on the corner of Thompson and Madison streets. Please visit the University of Michigan Parking and Transportation Services website for information about parking on campus.
The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (AATA) has a Park & Ride program, which provides four off-site parking locations free of charge, no permit required.
